Forecast Discussion: Current conditions: Northwesterly winds on the eastern side of a large dome of high pressure presently over the upper Midwest are circulating chilly air into the area this Friday afternoon. Mostly clear and rather cold tonight with a weak inversion developing. Fine particulate will increase overnight, but remain in the upper good range. *** Saturday's forecast: Periods of clouds and sunshine Saturday with afternoon temperatures recovering to the upper 50s. Enough mixing and dry air will remain present to where fine particulate remains fixed in the good range. Partly cloudy and chilly Saturday night with lows in the upper 30s. *** Sunday's forecast: Sunshine and a few clouds for Sunday with a milder afternoon--temperatures will bounce back into the lower to middle 60s. An east to northeast flow of clean background air should keep particulate matter parked in the good range again. *** Monday's forecast: High pressure will hang around one more day on Monday with another nice afternoon as temperatures finally rise slightly above late April normals, topping out in the upper 60s during the afternoon. Fine particulate levels may rise into the lower moderate range with mixing more limited. *** Extended forecast: An area of low pressure lifting out of the southeastern part of the nation may bring unsettled weather to the area later Tuesday into Wednesday, then a cold front coming out of the Great Lakes may result in another chance for April showers Thursday. Temperatures next week will finally be warm enough to where all precipitation will be in the form of rain. Air quality next week should be mainly in the upper good range with a progressive pattern.---McAuliffe
