Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, April 24th, 2017 through Monday, May 1st, 2017 Ozone: Ozone concentrations are expected to be Good to Low Moderate throughout the forecast period. PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations are also expected to be Good to Low Moderate throughout the forecast period. FORECAST DISCUSSION: The forecast period will be fairly warm and I am anticipating mostly Good Air Quality with some scattered Low Moderates. The work week begins with the region under southeast winds as we are sandwiched between low pressure to our southeast and a Canadian high pressure system to the northeast. These southeast winds will persist into Wednesday when they become more southerly and warmer. This will be in advance of a front which will pass through the state in the Wednesday night into the Thursday morning time frame. Air Quality, in the first have of the week, will be mostly Good for ozone with possibly some scattered Low Moderates as cloud cover will be increasing. Particulates will also be mostly Good, but have a better chance of reaching Low Moderate by the middle of the week, When the front completes its passage, on Thursday, we will be in a northwest wind pattern with cooler, cleaner air. Winds will return to an easterly direction by Friday in advance of another low pressure system centered in the Oklahoma panhandle area. That system will push a warm front over the region during the weekend and eventually pass as a cold front early Monday. I expect that Air Quality will be mostly Good during this time with a chance of scattered Low Moderates for PM-2.5 during the weekend. EXTENDED FORECAST: Air Quality is expected to be mostly Good going into the next work week. Forecast updated by Jim Haywood: Monday, April 24th, 2017 Next forecast update: Monday, May 1st, 2017
