Forecast Discussion: Updated Monday, April 23, 2018 ** OZONE HEALTH WATCH MONDAY & TUESDAY, APRIL 23-24, 2018 ** Hidden Valley PM10 levels are off to a fast start this workweek as hourly average levels have surpassed 1,000 ug/m3 for a couple of hours early this morning. Therefore today’s PM10 forecast has been increased into the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) AQI category since the 24-hour average PM10 is expected to exceed the health standard. Unfortunately not much is expected to change this week as high pressure controls the area. Morning temperature inversions will help trap particulates close to the ground and local dust causing activities will play a large role in overall PM10 concentrations. Hidden Valley will be the area of concern this week as the forecasted PM10 levels over the next several days are over the health standard. Ozone is another pollutant of concern this week as afternoon high temperature reach the middle to upper range of the 90s under mostly sunny skies. The forecasted ozone levels are in the upper range of the moderate category today through Wednesday. Therefore an ozone health watch remains in effect today and has been extended into Tuesday. Anyone with respiratory and/or heart ailments should limit outdoor activities during the afternoon and early evening hours when the ozone levels are typically at their highest. The PM2.5 levels will be elevated at Hidden Valley and are forecasted to be in the upper range of the moderate AQI category, though just below the health watch criteria. You can stay up to date with current air pollution levels by checking the near real-time PM10, PM2.5 and ozone levels online at http://www.pinalcountyaz.gov/AirQuality/Pages/AirQualityReport.aspx.
