Forecast Discussion: Monday, January 16: An upper-level ridge of high pressure over the eastern U.S. will limit vertical mixing in the atmosphere. Furthermore, light southeasterly winds will gradually transport pollutants into northeastern Ohio, leading to low-Moderate AQI levels. Tuesday, January 17: As a low pressure system moves into the Great Lakes, southeasterly winds will strengthen and shift to southwesterly, aiding pollutant dispersion. However, these winds will also bring regional pollutants into the Mahoning Valley, keeping AQI levels low-Moderate. Wednesday, the low pressure system will depart Ohio to the east, enhancing mixing in the atmosphere and shifting winds to westerly. These conditions will effectively disperse pollutants, lowering AQI levels to Good. Thursday through Saturday, southerly to southeasterly winds will bring moisture and pollutants into Youngstown-Warren, increasing particle production. While low pollutant carryover from previous days will keep AQI levels Good on Thursday, AQI levels will increase to low-Moderate on Friday and Saturday.
