Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, December 5th 2016 through Monday, December 12th, 2016 PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations are expected to be mostly Good after Monday, when some Low Moderates may affect the lower portion of the state. FORECAST DISCUSSION: We have not experienced much real winter weather, up to this point. That will change, later this week, when we get the first real shot of Artic air. Monday and Tuesday will be temperate and should melt off most of the snow Sunday afternoon provided. The extra moisture and southerly winds could push fine particulate levels into the Low Moderate range through late Tuesday. The leading edge of cold air starts arriving Tuesday night. The best chance for lake effect snow, on the west side of the state, begins on Thursday and continues into the weekend. Winds will be west to northwest, which will provide Good Air Quality. After Tuesday, I do not expect the thermometer to see the high side of freezing until Sunday, at best. Winds will shift back to a southerly direction during Saturday to signal the beginning of that short warmup. Some snowmelt moisture may try to enhance particulate growth, but the clean background should hold until the next cold front passage late Sunday. EXTENDED FORECAST: Air Quality is expected to be Good to Low Moderate into early next week Forecast updated by Jim Haywood: Monday, December 5th, 2016 Next forecast update: Monday, December 12th, 2016
