Forecast Discussion: Monday, October 14, 2019: High pressure ridging centered over the area earlier today is shifting east of our area this afternoon and evening. Air quality across Minnesota is Green (Good). An upper level disturbance will dive towards Minnesota tonight and trigger cyclogensis (low pressure formation) over western Iowa. The low pressure will track across the southern half of Minnesota during the morning and into Wisconsin during the afternoon. Showers will push into the state late tonight ahead of the low, then additional wraparound rain (and maybe some wet snow) will linger on the back side of the surface low and under the upper disturbance. Precipitation will end from west to east during the afternoon and evening. The passing low pressure will keep AQIs Green or Good. A high pressure ridge will build over the area during Wednesday. An active jet stream aloft will keep high clouds over the area which will limit temperature recovery as well as mixing. AQI will trend slightly higher but will stay Green. The high pressure will shift east and set up southwest return flow on Thursday into Friday. Thursday will be mostly sunny with temperatures climbing closer to seasonal normals. The warming trend continues on Friday as a moisture starved cold front pushes into the state during the second half of the day. Ozone and particulate for Thursday and Friday will edge a bit higher but will remain comfortably within the Green/Good category.
