Forecast Discussion: High pressure continues to slowly build southeastward into the Carolinas this afternoon, with the cooler and somewhat cleaner air mass keeping air quality levels in the middle Code GREEN range. The ridge of high pressure is expected to settle over the Triad tomorrow, with sunny skies and light winds helping particulate matter concentrations build into the middle to upper Code GREEN range. A disturbance moving in from the southwest out of the Gulf of Mexico in conjunction with the development of a stationary front along the coast will allow a cold air wedge to form over the Triad on Sunday. This should help lock colder air at the surface, and any light showers that develop will likely bring any particle pollution aloft closer to the surface and elevate air quality levels into the upper Code GREEN range. The wedge should hold through Monday, and light shower activity throughout the day will likely keep air quality levels in the upper Code GREEN range until heavier showers move in later in the evening. (PAYNE) NOTE: An OPEN BURN BAN remains in effect for Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Guilford, Forsyth, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin Counties in the Triad. For more information on the burn ban, please visit the North Carolina Forest Service website at http://ncforestservice.gov.
