Forecast Discussion: Monday, calm winds will reduce pollutant dispersion in the Sacramento area. In addition, an upper-level ridge of high pressure over California will limit vertical mixing and produce temperatures in the upper-90s. These conditions will enhance ground-level ozone formation. As a result, ozone levels will be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Tuesday is a Spare The Air Day in the Sacramento region. Continued warm temperatures and sunny skies will increase ozone production, and light and variable winds will inhibit pollutant dispersion. In addition, smoke from the Sawmill fire in Sonoma County may impact the Sacramento region, further enhancing ozone formation. Therefore, ozone levels will remain Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Wednesday, moderate onshore winds will help to keep the low levels of the atmosphere well mixed. In addition, cooler temperatures will limit ozone formation. Therefore, despite pollutant carryover from Monday and Tuesday, ozone levels will be Moderate.
