Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, August 3rd, 2015 through Monday, August 10th, 2015 Ozone: 8-hour ozone concentrations are expected to be mostly Good through the forecast period… PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations are also expected to be mostly Good to Low Moderate through the forecast period… FORECAST DISCUSSION: Good Air Quality should prevail during a rather quiet weather week with transport winds favorable for cleaner air. Following the Sunday night passage of a cold front, northwesterly winds will usher in clean air through mid-week. The models are a little less clear for the second half of the forecast period. However, the most consistency in the models is for a low pressure system along the Ohio Valley which would provide easterly winds during the second half of the work week. As a result, we could see some Low Moderates downwind of the Detroit area such as Flint or Lansing. Additionally, some light winds during mid-week could allow for some minor local stagnation in more urban areas but nothing worse than Low Moderate. In summary, I expect generally Good Air Quality during a time in the summer when we usually expect to see poorer Air Quality. As such, the forecasters do not need anticipate the need for another call until next Monday. EXTENDED FORECAST: A low pressure system could pass to the north of the forecast area, late in the weekend providing some precipitation chances and northwest winds.
