Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, March 2nd, 2015 through Monday, March 9th, 2015 PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations are expected to be mostly Good through the period; only a few Moderates are possible Tuesday, and again during the weekend. FORECAST DISCUSSION: Monday will be a quite weather day with sunshine and cool temperatures. More active weather moves in Tuesday as a system passes through the state. Precipitation starts as snow but as temperatures increase, precipitation will change to sleet and/or freezing rain during the day, mostly in central and southern areas. Warmer temperatures and increased moisture may cause a few monitors to reach low Moderate for fine particulate; otherwise, readings will remain Good. Cooler air returns on a northwest wind later Tuesday after the storm passes. High pressure to our west keeps a northwest wind flow in place Wednesday. There is a small chance for scattered snow showers; however, most locations will remain dry. Fine particulate will be in the Good range. As we move into Thursday, high pressure slides to the southwest of the state and a few snow showers remain in the forecast. Surface winds will be west to northwest which should keep fine particulate Good. By Friday the high is positioned southeast which will change surface winds to a southwesterly direction. With a low background in place, fine particulate will likely remain Good. EXTENDED FORECAST: Extended forecast models show a weak boundary moving through Saturday. Most locations will remain dry and a good amount of sunshine is expected. Temperatures in the southern portion of the state may get higher than freezing during the weekend which could allow for a slow snowmelt. If that’s happens, a few locations may reach low Moderate for fine particulate. A clipper system expected to move through late Sunday, early Monday, will bring in snow showers and Good air quality.
