Forecast Discussion: Forecast discussion for July 7 to 12: An unseasonal upper level low continues to spin off the coast of Central California. This will continue to deepen the marine layer leading to morning low clouds and drizzle along the coast as well as below normal temperatures inland and along the coast. Above normal sea surface temperatures will keep overnight lows near the coast from dipping below the mid-50s. Instability associated with the low should produce good atmospheric mixing, keeping air quality for ozone, PM2.5 and PM10 in the GOOD category of EPA’s Air Quality Index (AQI). The upper level low gradually fills and drifts inland late in the week as a long-wave trough becomes established over the West Coast into next week for near normal conditions and continued GOOD air quality. Please note, due to the long-term drought CAL FIRE has SUSPENDED OPEN BURNING in the State Responsibility Areas of Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties. During these extremely dry conditions, residents are also cautioned about the high risk of causing a wildfire when using any ignition source, such as leftover fireworks, near dry grass and brush.
