Forecast Discussion: Forecast discussion for May 18 to May 23: A broad troughing pattern continues over the West Coast bringing continued below normal temperatures and slightly unsettled conditions to the area. Weak ridges and troughs embedded in the broad trough expected to bring minor day to day changes with a general trend toward warming and slowly diminishing cloudiness by the Memorial Day Weekend. Air pollution is not expected to build up under these progressive conditions which should allow AQIs for ozone, PM2.5 and PM10 to remain in the GOOD air quality category. Please note, due to the long-term drought CAL FIRE has SUSPENDED OPEN BURNING in the State Responsibility Areas of Monterey and San Benito Counties. During these extremely dry conditions, residents are also cautioned about the high risk of causing a wildfire when using any potential ignition source near dry grass and brush. It should be noted that Camp Roberts plans to conduct a large controlled burn May 20 to reduce fire hazard in their training areas which could impact PM2.5 air quality in Southern Monterey County due to smoke.
