Forecast Discussion: Air quality forecast northern Indiana issued Monday, August 25, 2014 for Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27. A moderate air quality forecast for ozone and fine particulates (PM2.5) for the northwest and the north central Indiana regions with good ozone forecasted in the northeast Indiana region and a moderate air quality forecast for PM2.5 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Frontal boundary which has moved just north of northern Indiana as a warm front will gradually drift southward tonight and Tuesday creating a boundary for some showers and thunderstorms to develop overnight tonight and on Tuesday afternoon. A wind shift to the west and northwest with the passage of the frontal boundary will transport some ozone from Lake Michigan southeastward to the lakeshore monitors in northwest Indiana. There may be a spike in ozone values tomorrow afternoon along the Lake Michigan shoreline but not anticipating enough additional ozone to be generated to produce 8-hour ozone exceedances along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The next air quality forecast update will be on Wednesday.
