Forecast Discussion: Saturday and Sunday, surface high pressure over the southeastern U.S. will lead to light and variable winds across Louisiana each day, inhibiting pollutant dispersion. Furthermore, strong overnight temperature inversions will increase particle concentrations near the surface. Therefore, despite an upper-level low pressure system passing over Louisiana on Saturday and enhancing vertical mixing in the atmosphere, AQI levels will be Moderate in most cities on both days. Monday, a cold frontal passage will generate moderate northwesterly winds throughout Louisiana, effectively dispersing pollutants and transporting a cleaner air mass into the state. As a result, AQI levels will lower to Good.
