Forecast Discussion: Saturday is a Spare the Air day in the Sacramento region. An upper-level ridge of high pressure over California will reduce vertical mixing and produce mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper-90s. These conditions will enhance the formation of ground-level ozone. Furthermore, light and variable winds will limit dispersion, allowing pollutants to accumulate. These conditions will lead to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups ozone levels. Sunday, the upper-level ridge of high pressure will weaken slightly, enhancing atmospheric mixing and strengthening onshore winds in the afternoon. These conditions will help to disperse pollutants. However, sunny skies and warm temperatures will continue to support ozone formation. Therefore, ozone levels will be low-Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Monday, an upper-level trough of low pressure approaching the northern California coast will increase vertical mixing and produce light to moderate onshore winds, dispersing pollutants in the Sacramento region. In addition, cooler temperatures will reduce ozone formation. Therefore, ozone levels will be Moderate.
