Forecast Discussion: Friday, April 17: Light to moderate northwesterly winds behind a departing cold front will disperse pollutants in the Mahoning Valley, leading to Good AQI levels. Saturday, April 18: Surface high pressure building over the Great Lakes will produce light to moderate northerly winds that will gradually transport clean air into Youngstown-Warren. As a result, AQI levels will remain Good. Sunday and Monday, southeasterly winds developing ahead of an approaching cold front will transport regional pollutants into the Mahoning Valley, yielding Moderate AQI levels on both days. Tuesday and Wednesday, the cold front will impact Ohio and depart to the east, enhancing vertical mixing in the atmosphere and shifting winds to westerly. These weather conditions will disperse pollutants in northeastern Ohio. In addition, cooler temperatures will inhibit ozone formation. Therefore, AQI levels will be Good on both days.
