Forecast Discussion: Monday, September 22: Moderate northwesterly winds behind a departing cold front will disperse pollutants and bring a cool, clean air mass into northeastern Ohio. These conditions will inhibit both ozone and particle formation, resulting in Good AQI levels. Tuesday, September 23: Winds will diminish as surface high pressure moves across Ohio, reducing pollutant dispersion in the Mahoning Valley. In addition, mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures will aid ozone formation. However, low regional pollutant carryover from Monday will keep AQI levels Good. Wednesday and Thursday, surface high pressure over the northeastern U.S. will produce light to moderate easterly winds in Youngstown-Warren. Therefore, despite mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures aiding ozone formation, AQI levels will remain Good on both days. Friday and Saturday, sunny skies and warm temperatures will continue to support ozone formation in northeastern Ohio. These conditions, combined with pollutant carryover from day to day, will result in Moderate AQI levels on both days.
