Forecast Discussion: Saturday, January 31: Surface high pressure moving over the Ohio River Valley will produce light southwesterly winds in the Youngstown-Warren area, reducing pollutant dispersion. However, a dry air mass over the region will limit particle formation, keeping AQI levels Good. Sunday, February 1: Light winds throughout most of the day will continue to limit pollutant dispersion. However, moderate easterly winds will develop in the afternoon and evening hours, helping to disperse pollutants. These conditions, combined with low pollutant carryover from previous days, will keep AQI levels Good. Monday, as a low-pressure system moves through northeastern Ohio and departs to the east, moderate northwesterly winds will keep pollutants well dispersed, yielding Good AQI levels. Tuesday and Wednesday, surface high pressure to the east of Ohio will produce light to moderate southwesterly winds in Youngstown-Warren. These winds will transport regional pollutants and moisture into the region, enhancing particle formation and yielding low-Moderate AQI levels on both days. Thursday, as high pressure builds over the Great Lakes, northerly winds will develop in Youngstown-Warren, dispersing pollutants and bringing cleaner air into the region. As a result, AQI levels will lower to Good.
