Forecast Discussion: Today and tomorrow, moderate northwesterly winds behind a departing low-pressure system will effectively disperse pollutants and bring clean air into Rochester. Therefore, AQI levels will be Good on both days. Monday, light to moderate westerly winds will develop as surface high pressure moves across Iowa, dispersing pollutants in southeastern Minnesota and keeping AQI levels Good. Tuesday, as surface high pressure moves over the Great Lakes, light to moderate southerly winds will reduce pollutant dispersion and gradually transport regional pollutants into Rochester. In addition, mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures will aid ozone formation. However, low pollutant carryover from previous days will result in Good AQI levels. Wednesday and Thursday, moderate southerly winds will bring additional regional pollutants into southeastern Minnesota, and moisture associated with scattered showers and thunderstorms will enhance particle formation. These conditions will lead to low-Moderate AQI levels on both days.
