Forecast Discussion: Today, southerly winds developing ahead of an approaching cold front will transport regional pollutants and moisture into Rochester, enhancing particle formation. However, low pollutant carryover from previous days will lead to Good AQI levels. Tomorrow, the cold front will move through southeastern Minnesota, enhancing atmospheric mixing and generating strong winds that will shift to northwesterly in the afternoon. These weather conditions will effectively disperse pollutants, yielding Good AQI levels. Monday, southerly winds will develop as a weak surface low-pressure system moves into Minnesota, bringing some pollutants and moisture into Rochester; however, low regional pollutant carryover from previous days will keep AQI levels Good. Tuesday, moderate west-northwesterly winds will help to disperse pollutants in southeastern Minnesota, leading to continued Good AQI levels. Wednesday, a stronger low-pressure system will approach from the west, producing moderate to strong southerly winds that will disperse pollutants in the Rochester area. Therefore, AQI levels will remain Good. Thursday, as the low-pressure system moves east, gusty westerly winds behind it will keep pollutants well dispersed in the Rochester area, yielding Good AQI levels.
