Forecast Discussion: Air quality forecast northern Indiana issued Friday, September 4, 2015 for Saturday, September 5 - Tuesday, September 8. A continuation of a moderate air quality forecast for fine particulates (PM2.5) and ozone through the weekend with PM2.5 still at moderate levels and ozone in the good range by Monday, Labor Day. The Labor Day weekend will be the last two days of marginally conducive ozone weather with a cold front approaching the Lake Michigan region and northern Indiana from the northwest. Wind speeds will begin to increase by Sunday afternoon, but even faster wind speeds expected by Labor Day ahead of the cold front. The cold front will increase the probability of showers and thunderstorms by Labor Day and into the day Tuesday ending the favorable ozone weather which has occurred this past week. The next air quality forecast update will be on Tuesday, but a possible update on Saturday especially for Sunday's ozone forecast. Air quality forecast provided by IDEM, Office of Air Quality.
