Forecast Discussion: Forecast Discussion for June 17 to June 22, 2013: The large scale pattern continues to feature a cold upper level trough off the West Coast. The trough is eventually displaced eastward by a ridge of high pressure that develops over California during the latter part of the forecast period. For the next several days while the trough maintains a well-mixed atmosphere, AQIs should mostly remain in the GOOD air quality. However, as high pressure develops and the atmosphere stabilizes over the later part of the forecast period, AQIs at the warmer inland areas may gradually crepe upwards into the upper GOOD to lower MODERATE categories. Also, some of the drier breezier inland areas, such as the Southern Salinas Valley may continue to see particulate related AQIs increase to the upper GOOD to lower MODERATE air quality categories due to seasonal increases in afternoon windblown fugitive dust. |
