Forecast Discussion: Colder and drier air will filter into the Mid-Atlantic region on Thanksgiving Day behind the departing coastal low pressure system. It will be cloudy with a slight chance of scattered rain/snow showers. Snow cover on the ground, mainly in northern Delaware, will promote formation of a morning surface inversion, which will trap pollutants. Light northwesterly winds will not be sufficient to ventilate the atmosphere, and as a result, particle concentrations will be in the low Moderate range. The sun will return on Friday as surface high pressure builds into the region. Continued light northwesterly winds will allow particles to remain in the low Moderate range. **Extended Forecast: A shift to southwesterly flow on Saturday will bring warmer and moister air into Delaware. Warm air arriving aloft will favor a strong morning surface inversion, which will push particle concentrations higher into the Moderate range. -Huff
