Forecast Discussion: Smoke from the King Fire burning in El Dorado County may increase particle (PM2.5) levels in the Sacramento region through Tuesday. Smoke impacts will be greatest in the foothills east of Sacramento during the overnight and morning hours. Monday, a weak upper-level ridge of high pressure moving over northern California will reduce atmospheric mixing in the Sacramento region, and mostly sunny skies will aid ozone formation. However, light to moderate onshore winds will help to disperse pollutants, resulting in Good ozone levels. Tuesday and Wednesday, surface high pressure building over the Pacific Northwest will generate moderate northerly winds in the Sacramento region, dispersing pollutants. Therefore, despite sunny skies enhancing ozone formation, ozone levels will remain Good on both days.
