Forecast Discussion: Rapidly clearing skies this morning have led to a quick warm up across the Triad today, allowing for increased dispersion throughout the growing boundary layer to keep particle pollution levels in the upper Code GREEN range. A cold air wedge builds in temporarily across the Carolinas tomorrow, trapping pollution particles near the surface. With a lack of dispersion generated by light and variable winds, air quality levels will likely rise into the Code YELLOW range. The wedge is expected to gradually erode Wednesday as winds increase from the southwest throughout the day, generating plenty of dispersion ahead of a slow-moving cold front to push particle pollution levels back into the upper Code GREEN range. Rain chances increase Wednesday evening through Thursday as the cold front passes through the Triad, with precipitation possibly ending as snow in the afternoon and evening. With a colder air mass settling across the area in the cold front's wake, particle pollution levels are expected to bottom out into the low to middle Code GREEN range. (PAYNE)
