Forecast Discussion: Today, as a low-pressure system develops over the northern Plains, moderate southerly winds ahead of it will transport regional pollutants into Rochester. Furthermore, sunny skies and temperatures in the upper-80s will support ozone formation. Therefore, AQI levels will be Moderate. Tomorrow, the low-pressure system will move through Minnesota, producing scattered thunderstorms and shifting winds from southerly to northwesterly. These weather conditions will help to disperse pollutants. However, regional pollutant carryover from previous days will lead to low-Moderate AQI levels. Wednesday, as surface high pressure builds into the northern Plains, moderate northerly winds will disperse pollutants and bring cleaner, drier air into southeastern Minnesota. As a result, AQI levels will be Good. Thursday, southeasterly winds will develop as high pressure moves east, bringing pollutants into Rochester. In addition, mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures will aid ozone formation. Therefore, AQI levels will be low-Moderate. Friday, moderate southerly winds will persist ahead of an approaching cold front, transporting additional pollutants into the Rochester area. Therefore, despite mostly cloudy skies limiting ozone formation, AQI levels will be Moderate for particles. Saturday, as a cold front moves through Rochester, winds will shift to westerly, dispersing pollutants and leading to Good AQI levels.
