Forecast Discussion: Today, surface high pressure building over the region will generate light southeasterly winds, gradually transporting regional pollutants into southeastern Minnesota. However, low regional carryover from previous days will lead to Good AQI levels. Tomorrow, a surface low-pressure system moving east across the Dakotas will generate moderate southerly winds that will bring additional pollutants into Rochester. These conditions will lead to low-Moderate AQI levels. Thursday, breezy northwesterly winds behind the departing low-pressure system will effectively disperse pollutants and transport cleaner, drier air into southeastern Minnesota. Therefore, AQI levels will lower to Good. Friday, surface high pressure building into the western Great Lakes will cause winds to diminish and shift to southerly in Rochester. These conditions will reduce pollutant dispersion. However, pollutant carryover from Thursday will be low, keeping AQI levels Good. Saturday and Sunday, a low-pressure system will move through southern Minnesota and depart eastward, enhancing atmospheric mixing and generating moderate north-northwesterly winds. These weather conditions will effectively disperse pollutants, yielding Good AQI levels on both days.
