Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Monday, June 17th, 2013 through Thursday, June 20th, 2013 Ozone: 8-hour Ozone concentrations are expected to be mostly Good for the forecast period… PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations are also expected to be mostly Good to Low Moderate for the forecast period… FORECAST DISCUSSION: A weak frontal system will drop through the state during Monday with little fanfare. A few showers or thundershowers may occur but those should be the exception rather than the rule. The majority of the remaining work week will be pleasant with sunny skies and warm temperatures. Air Quality conditions will begin to change late Thursday into Friday as high pressure slides to the east and winds begin to shift to the southwest. Based on the current model results, Friday will likely be a “ramp-up” day as warmer and more humid air begins to stream into the state. Saturday is my day of concern as the heart of the warm, humid air settles over the state under sunny skies. It is not beyond comprehension that Saturday could be our first Action Day but it is too early to say that with confidence. Clouds moving in on Sunday would likely limit this to a one day event. Due to the likelihood of elevated ozone levels at the end of the week, another forecasting call has been scheduled for Thursday. EXTENDED FORECAST: Clouds and convective activity, beginning Sunday, should limit any photochemical activity during the early portion of the following week.
